The community of Fairfax County is mourning the sudden loss of Jeffrey William Cole, 71, who died following a devastating traffic collision in Lancaster County. His unexpected passing has left family members, friends, and loved ones grieving a heartbreaking loss.
According to the Virginia State Police, the crash occurred on Friday, May 15, at approximately 11:47 a.m. at the intersection of Irvington Road and Christ Church Road.
Investigators reported that Cole was driving a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 when he entered the intersection from Christ Church Road and allegedly failed to yield the right of way. Authorities stated that his vehicle was then struck by a southbound 2024 GMC Sierra 1500, causing severe damage to both vehicles.
Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene and transported Cole to Rappahannock General Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Officials confirmed that Cole was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. A passenger in his vehicle was not injured, while the 46-year-old driver of the GMC Sierra, who was also properly restrained, escaped injury.
